My sculpture explores the architecture of the human figure and reflects the joy of the human spirit. The transformation of raw clay into abstract figures that embody distinct human qualities and emotions is a process that continues to captivate me.
Supportively, my expressionist paintings ignite my creative energy, offering spontaneous and limitless possibilities. Layers of color and form suggest human, animal, and other life forces, blending fluid movement with geometric precision.
These artworks share a dialogue between structure and emotion, shaped by both architectural influences and the depth of human experience.

Mary-Ann Prack was born in Ontario, Canada, into a family deeply rooted in architectural engineering. Growing up surrounded by art and architecture, she was immersed in a world where creativity and design intertwined. These early life experiences laid the foundation for her artistic path. Beginning her art education at the University of Guelph, she later studied at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, and Florida Atlantic University, studying fine art and interior design. Despite pursuing interior design for her livelihood, Mary-Ann dedicated herself to fine art, achieving the transition by 1986. Her sculptural journey, spanning 40 years, is centered on clay, which she constructs into uniquely precise, geometric, yet sensuous forms. Drawing inspiration intuitively from personal memories and the limitless potential of clay, Mary-Ann employs unconventional techniques and materials. Her sculptures, ranging in height from two to ten feet, bear individuality and originality. In 2004, when an illness rendered Mary-Ann temporarily unable to create sculpture she focused on painting, this art form became an integral part of her artistic expression, adding another layer to her diverse body of work. Although distinct in approach, her sculptures and paintings share a common thread — a palpable energy, spirit and her unmistakable artistic presence.
Mary-Ann’s home/studio/gallery and sculpture garden are located in the mountain community of Jefferson, North Carolina.

Q U O T E S
“Your work spoke to me the first time I saw it several years ago. What struck me first was the innovative way you approached the human figure, in a somewhat abstract approach. Having a masters degree in ceramics and sculpture myself, I know the technical challenges you face with each piece and so I had (have) great admiration for that. Then of course your commitment to color in your work was the icing on the cake for me. Your work, in my mind, stands alone as a powerful personal statement and reflection of the singular path you follow. “
Ken Rollins, Owner of Ken Rollins Fine Art and past executive director of four Florida Museums of Art including the Deland Museum of Art
“Mary-Ann Prack’s sculpture evokes both the graphic excitement of Piet Mondrian and the soft figurative lines of Constantin Brancusi and Henry Moore. She is both sculptor and painter, expressing the human condition in form and graphic design. I invite you to meet each of these pieces, observe them, listen to what they have to say, take time to get to know them. Your life will be richer for it.“
Celia Cerasoli, Guest Curator of STANDING STILL IN THE ABSTRACT, Solo Exhibition, City Gallery at Waterfront Park, Charleston, SC
“There were many great exhibits in 2004, but one that stood out was the colorful take on modern art by sculptor Mary-Ann Prack at Tyndall Galleries back in February. Prack's stoneware clays are shaped and glazed intuitively, but come out very aware of Matisse, O'Keefe, Miro, and to an extent, Picasso and Kandinsky. Being able to conduct a modern art orchestration while retaining her own style is what makes Prack's work memorable."
Doug Stuber, Visual Arts Critic, Independent Weekly, Durham, NC. "The Best of the Year 2004" Issue, 1.5.2005, Best Solo Exhibition.
"The figure has been the subject for sculptors since the beginning of human history, to interpret the figure in an artistically original way at this point in time is almost impossible. Mary-Ann has accomplished this. Her work is powerful from a distance, but the details make it quite exceptional up close."
John Henry, American Sculptor
“Mary-Ann Prack's sculptures resonate pure harmony, balance and the relentless positive spirit of humankind. Simple in form yet endowed with a profound sense of ancient wisdom, they are sublime and full of wonder. Prack is an artist who reaches deep within herself to evoke universal themes. That is why I selected her work to receive an Artist Showcase award in the Manhattan Arts International "Herstory 2004" competition/exhibition."
